Martin Scott was born in Gaywood Road, King’s Lynn.
After gaining a degree in architecture from Manchester University and an MSc in Urban ad Regional Planning from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, he joined Liverpool City Planning Department.
He returned to Norfolk in 1974, working for Norfolk County Council on environmental matters, including landscape rejuvenation, nature conservation, and historic building restoration.
He retired from Norfolk County Council in 2002 and spends much of his time on local and family history research. Having published the history of Scott & Son, the King’s Lynn furnishing business founded by his great grandfather, he continued researching the other High Street traders of the 19th and 20th centuries.
